CIVIC ACTIVITIES
Justice Gurich is Past President of the Kiwanis Club of Oklahoma City (2006-07) and has been a member since 1998. She was only the second female President in the 90 year history of the club. Gurich was a volunteer for Rebuilding Together with Christmas in April for 2001 & 2002 and a volunteer course monitor for the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon for 2001 & 2002. She was a Community Advisory Board Member of the Junior League of Oklahoma City from 1999-2000. She was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity in 1997 & 1998, and a volunteer with Volunteers in Mission rebuilding homes destroyed by the May 1999 tornadoes. She volunteered to work on the Habitat for Humanity house sponsored by the Oklahoma Bar Association in 2005. District Judge Gurich was a volunteer for the National High School Mock Trial finals held in Oklahoma City in May of 2006. She is an annual volunteer for the Oklahoma City Festival of the Arts. She is an annual bell ringer for the Salvation Army. Justice Gurich serves as a judge annually for the Oklahoma High School Mock Trial program. Justice Gurich was the Kiwanis Advisor for the Southeast High School Key Club (2015-2020) and a member of the Advisory Board for the Southeast High School Academy of Information Technology until 2020.
Justice Gurich and her husband are active members of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. She has served as a member of the Board of Trustees, Chair of the Administrative Board, Chair of the Management Council, and Chair of the Arts at St. Luke’s Council. She is a volunteer Meals On Wheels driver and TV camera operator. Justice Gurich served as a missionary to Russia in 1993, 1997, 2000, 2002 and 2004. She served on the Board of Trustees for the Oklahoma Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church, Inc. from 2003 to 2011.
PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES
By appointment of Chief Justice Opala, Gurich served on the Oklahoma Supreme Court Committee on Revision of the Rules for Perfecting Civil Appeals. She also served on the Oklahoma Judicial Education and Training Board by appointment of Chief Justice Yvonne Kauger. Gurich served by appointment by Chief Justice Hargrave on the Oklahoma Supreme Court’s standing committee on the Uniform Civil Jury Instructions from 2002-2011.
Justice Gurich is an active member of the Oklahoma Bar Association, and has chaired and served on several committees. She is a Master member and Past President of the William J. Holloway, Jr. American Inn of Court, which is an organization affiliated with Oklahoma City University School of Law, and is dedicated to providing inspiration and ethical guidance to law students and younger attorneys. Gurich completed the Oklahoma State Mediator Certification Training Program in 1997.
Justice Gurich is also a member of the Oklahoma County Bar Association, and life member of the Oklahoma Judicial Conference. She served as the co-chair of the 2002 Oklahoma County Bar Association Law Day Committee. Gurich also served as a delegate for the OCBA.
As a district judge, Gurich served as a member of the faculty for the OU Law School Graduate Section of Successful Trial Advocacy. District Judge Gurich was a guest speaker for law students at both Oklahoma City University School of Law and college students at the University of Central Oklahoma. Justice Gurich serves as a judge for moot court competitions at both OCU Law School and the University of Oklahoma College of Law. Justice Gurich is a member of the OU Law Board of Visitors. She serves as the liaison to the Oklahoma Board of Bar Examiners. Justice Gurich is a frequent speaker for continuing legal education courses. She works with the law students in the externship programs for both OU Law and OCU Law as a sponsor and mentor.
She is a life member of the College of Law Association Alumni organization for the University of Oklahoma and a life member of the Alumni Association of Indiana State University.
